This Kyusu is Banko-Yaki, known for functional as well as traditional designs. Banko-Yaki has a unique atmosphere brought by the earthen surface. Our Earthenware Kyusu exemplifies Banko-Yaki style with its natural and earthy design, functional features, and reasonable price.

This Kyusu has a fine mesh filter at the base of the spout, so even tiny tea leaves (ex: Fukamushi Sencha) will not come out from the Kyusu. If the mesh filter is too fine, the aroma and taste can't be extracted enough and the filter can easily become blocked. Our Kyusu's mesh filter is the perfect size for all kinds of tea leaves.

The Kyusu we have selected for you is the most popular size, 360ml (12.67fl oz), perfect for 1 - 3 people. This Kyusu is a very classic natural red color and simple style.

The Japanese characters carved on the side of this Kyusu are "Hannya Shinkyoh" which is one of the most famous Buddhist scriptures. Though "Hannya Shinkyoh" is composed of only three hundred characters, it captures the quintessence of Buddhism. In the "Hannya Shinkyoh" it is written that 'all creation, nature, and all things in this world are ephemeral' and 'search for truth eternally' and so on.

We chose the BEEDORO handcrafted Matcha Bowl. It is the most standard shape and size, so that it is also perfect for beginners. With the Bamboo Whisk of 120 bristles one therefore can make a very nice lather. If you would like to add other important tea ware, we suggest our Whisk Keeper (Kusenaoshi) and Matcha Sifter. Both are useful though not essential. With those together, you have everything essential to correctly prepare Matcha, so you can enjoy an authentic and flavorful bowl of Matcha!

If you do not sift matcha in advance, it tends to get lumpy either when you drink the matcha or when you make matcha sweets. This item is perfect to sift matcha.
It is a suitable size to sift matcha for tea drinking or making matcha sweets.

How to sift matcha:
1. Put matcha on the mesh.
2. Press down the matcha with the included spatula.
3. Open the mesh and remove the matcha from the can.
4. If you wish, you may store the sifted matcha in the can for some days.
* We recommend not to wash the sifter because it may become rusty.

This Bamboo Whisk has about 120 bristles. It makes a very nice lather and if stored properly, will remain in good working condition for many years. 120 bristles is the highest number of bristles that a Bamboo Whisk can have. The large number of bristles creates a bowl of matcha that is especially smooth and frothy.

Hints for a lengthy storage life:
1) We recommend that you get the bamboo whisk wet just before you use it. The bamboo whisk is susceptible to dry conditions. When it is dry, it becomes brittle and easy to break.
2) It is better to store the bamboo whisk on a whisk keeper after using it. This will help the whisk to retain its shape.

Measure the correct amount of Matcha every time with this traditional natural bamboo measuring spoon, known in Japan as a Chashaku.

2 Chashaku of Matcha = 1.5 to 2 g.
For Usucha, thin tea, use 2 Chashaku of Matcha. For Koicha, thick tea, use 3 to 4.

Tip: It also prevents deterioration if you immerse the Chasen in warm water before using it. This softens the bamboo, making it less brittle, so there is less chance of breakage.
